No Kill, Common Threads With Rioting, Baltimore, Watts & Suicide Bombers

The anarchy going on currently is reminiscent of the riots of yesteryear, or the car bombings of today.  I was active duty on the east coast when the Baltimore riots broke out.  We were summoned to restore peace. What I learned then, simply put, is most of those people living in those neighborhoods did not want their homes burned down that day.  They were caught in the cross hairs of somebody else and their insane agenda. Later with Watts, again the innocent were homeless as a result of the malcontents.  All of the violence did not generate good will or enhance the community, it destroyed what they had available to build own. 
That's the rule of power in the No Kill Movement and it's bizarre (wannabe ) leader.  Once we destroy your shelter you will have to let us in, that's not working very well.  Every shelter Winograd has touched, has failed, miserably, at the expense of animals and citizens alike.
 A trip to Reno last week confirmed that. I walked through the tired slut of what used to be a fine place.  Cages up the walls stood in silence as dogs raced by, dragging volunteers and scaring the beejesus out of the cats stacked 6 high. The few harried volunteers were trying to walk dogs at least once a week, you read that right.  Cat cuddlers don't do cages, and dog walkers don't clean up after their charges. People are lined up around the building to surrender pets, some trying for the fourth day in a row, turned away again.  The line is long because so many of these dogs are right back in the system within a week of being given away.
Normal people don't want No Kill, and they have animals  in those shelters.  If you think screaming to get your way is the path to victory, do your homework.  I hear Mitch is leaving and I hope he takes the whole damn NHS board of directors with him.  The inmates in Carson could take over and do a better job of running the place. Denise is eating her way into a heart attack, Bonney continues to throw spin and animals at the same speed and Diane is trying to stay alive.  What few of us volunteers left are disgusted and only hanging on for the animals.  One told me the return rate was over 40%.  The rumor mill has is that both Bonney and Mitch are like rats in a corner looking for something to bite. Pretty stupid of Mitch to let Bonney get the rebates from the power company without even requesting the funds to apply.  More county money wasted, and no help to the shelter animals.

Tell Me About No Kill Shelters Daddy.....

The understanding of "Staff"  here at Oreo's is even Maddie's Fund is tired of financing the farce.  Yet another group for Winograd to put on his hate list. He is running out of people to "challenge" these days and may soon be facing only his own worst enemy, in the mirror.
We live with a No Kill Nightmare and see the endless parade of free ( soon to be returned ) dogs & cats. Hanging around Craig's list like some lurker on a foggy London night, they beg for homes and materials dragging out the misery of their charges as longs as possible.  Last we saw they were pleading for a "permanent foster home" for some poor pitbull caught in their snare for 3 years.  Doesn't permanent/foster seem a bit at odds to you ?  By their own press releases, the Nevada Humane Society has been running at capacity for 2 years. They produce an endless regurgitation of the same poor animals over and over. The last stop on the spin cycle is Washoe Animal Services where you will be abandoned to die.. So, no little Newf puppy, Daddy would never take you to a No Kill Warehouse. We'll just find a nice spot down by the river til the recession ends. Most people think " humane society" nice place, they'll find a home.....there are not enough homes for all the adoptable animals.  When you add in the animals that should never be placed, it's impossible NHS even has a " purple dot " designation for dogs being handled.  it signifies they are to aggressive for adoption, so why are they being held hostage ?  I am glad Maddie's Fund is rethinking it's priorities, and perhaps someday we can reduce killing without doing more harm than good, offering a quality of life to sustain their spirits.
A small group of ambulance chasing lawyers is cyberstalking around the country creating chaos, for money and personal agenda.  They are lower than the dogfighters, because even the dogfighters are honest about using animals for personal gain.  Winograd claims affection,....however,  cruel, evil, deceptive, manipulative, destructive and arrogant without reason, would be more appropriate descriptions. How about a class action lawsuit against the No Kill Advocacy Center ?  Nope, that would be like bombing Afghanistan,nothing really there to destroy.... Maybe we could tape his mailbox shut ?

Nevada Humane Society Steps Over The Line Again !

Many folks read a time back about two cat hoarding sisters in Washoe County.  Let me offer you the back story.  You can Google "44 cats, two sisters" and get the propaganda put forth. This will not be about the legality or morality of trying to keep 44 cats, although the Nevada Humane Society has over 500, most of them locked in a condemned building with the windows boarded over from the inside.  This post is about the law and the way No Kill ignores it.
Recently there was a housefire in Reno, big house, big fire, big money.  The house belongs to Bill Bowen former Reno police Lt, and director of Reno Animal Services before the consolidation.  From the RGJ.

Press release:Nevada Humane Society is seeking donations to help care for cats who survived a house fire in southwest Reno.

“We received a call from a neighbor reporting that there were cats on the property, climbing in and out of the remains of a home that burned down last week,” said Denise Stevens of Nevada Humane Society.  Neighbors reported that one cat would sit on debris where the living room used to be and cry.”

On Saturday NHS staff members began trapping cats. Five in all were recovered, including two kittens. The cats were suffering from dehydration and minor smoke inhalation. One cat had minor burns.
Nevada Humane Society is seeking donations toward the care of the cats, and asking that people consider adopting one of the many cats in need of homes at the shelter. 
NHS is experiencing a higher than normal number of cats and dogs arriving at the shelter and is need of adoptions.

Let me open by saying, the Nevada Humane Society has absolutely no authority, by law or contract to set foot on above property, nor are they authorized to handle strays or owned animals in the field.. The Nevada Humane Society ran completely run amuck.  The AC director had previously gone over the bounds of reason and law by allowing the Nevada Humane Society to hold animals in the presentencing phase of a criminal trial..  Prior to the judges ruling on the care custody and control of the "sisters 44" Schnieder had already removed them from the chain of custody over the protestations of his own animal control officers and staff.  This blog does not think he sought legal opinion, but if he did that should be scrutinized .  I no longer reside in Reno, but that must be a terrifying thought to citizens, knowing that crazy people are allowed to come on property and take your animals and impersonate a sworn officer through inference.  Judge Kevin Higgins paid close attention to the words of Bonney Brown, that she had no authority to speak.
This blog doesn't know if he is biased or stupid, but he impersonates both well.. Lauretta's animals are on the adoption floor and her heart is broken, that is not the issue.  The issue is .  Did Mitch Schnieder the Director of Washoe County Regional Animal Services give away evidence in a criminal trial ?  Did he violate his responsibility, playing judge and jury, and wrongfully cause the loss of a private citizens pets through his over zealous No Kill outlook.  Those cats belonged to the sisters until Judge Higgens remanded otherwise.  Mitch Schnieder, what were you thinking, or were you ?

The Face Of The Homeless Dog..

You won't see this guy at the Nevada Humane Society, shame they could use a pretty face......More and more people who really care about their pets are being turned away and learning through the process about how bad No Kill is. I found this guy on Craig's list and he was listed as "Needs medical attention I can't afford so he's free to a good home" Turns out the owner is a former neighbor who lost their home.  Although they have had this guy since puppy hood, broke is broke. Priss and Burley chipped in to get him treated, but we have a ways to go before he can be adopted., Luckily he is still with his owner for 5 more weeks.  Our decision is to keep him here at Oreo's place until his ear heals, and then send him to a breed specific rescue. The ticker is still running at over $300.00 and that is with a marvelous vet who is doing stuff below costs.   This owner loves his dogs, but love doesn't prevent or cure serious infections.  Sometimes stuff happens, and I bet this guy was a vicitim of owner love to the inth degree, meaning....he tricked his owner into letting him go swimming to often :)  Newfies can do that ya know. We had a similar event wih Burley and it came so quickly that in 3 days we were in trouble.  The only difference was, we were still employed.

Big guys like this don't do well on concrete, and Kuranda beds are bad for their spine, so if you know of any really good breed specific rescues, share that with us.  The vet check will be made and we will do a full back ground check.  A good rescue has an open account with a veterinarian. At least that's our standard :)
