I heard this while at a prison group this evening. It's a men's group of repeat offenders up for parole, of course they all love me when they are locked up. The leader of the group said " Just because you got the monkey off your back, doesn't mean the circus has left town " Hope you all get the real monkey off your back soon, prayer til then and take the cameras down.

I don't think it's right for dogs & cats to linger in cages for long extended periods of time. Yet I also don't agree with killing healthy adoptable dogs & cats, and most ARE adoptable.
The men/women prison population could be an excellent method to serving both solutions.
Pet care has been proven to "soothing the wild beast" so to speak as it teaches one humility, expectations, patience, love, acceptance, restrictions, concern, compassion and all the other things many prisoners never learned growing up. THAT can be a perfect learning tool for all concerned.
The cats & dogs get another chance at life, instead of death, the prisoners gain the lessons only pet care can offer without putting society at risk turning loose a completely ignorant exprisoner, the prison staff doesn't have to deal with unoccupied prisoners and society benefits by having people come back to their cities who do have a better understanding of compassion, acceptance & love. We all win.
Without programs like this animals needlessly die, no-kill groups stir up everybody, "shelter" employees stress out haveing to deal with death daily and society doesn't benefit when uneducated prisoners are released.
What would it take to implement such an endeavor?
