Just when you think the flakes are melting, a new one crawls out of the woodwork. Unskilled people taking animals of unknown health , history and temperment across the land. Of course Wino would be on that like dew on a watermelon. For you non-gardener types; dew will rot a melon in a blink. It's not surprising that Wino has a new toy to torment animals with, and we can be spared his " consulting & assessment" expertise for a while; till his reputation fades. King County is still trying to get a grip on Kent shelter, but not a mention of Winograd or No Kill, all Claire Loeb Davis and the KCACC exposed gang. Maybe the plan is to take control of AC and then invite Wino back if he hasn't found a job by then. I did watch the snippet of 15 legs and it was pretty dumb, and I would hope that PBS would see through it fairly quickly.
These people need to get a job and quit sucking off the back of innocent aniamals who have already been abused by the system. Shelters are not the enemy, they are the solution until we can get the public to have some sense of social conscience again. Most shelters are sincerely trying to do the right thing and find a home for those people-less pets who can be saved. Please go back to" nice and adoptable are not the same....."
We are still keeping the focus on policy changes here, I think Mitch is not above giving away the store if it benefits him... and it will take a while for the damage to show if the animals start being shifted to county. Heads up everybody....

Where are all these cities that need animals ?? How many upper Manhattens do we have ? Another crackpot scheme designed to fuel the dreams of the new pet crowd. Maybe Tom could send some of our older $20 lame dogs to souther California and they could send us Chi's. Good pic of the big boy.
No kill has been transporting animals across state lines and international borders for a looong time.
The Lied/Animal Foundation shelter in Las Vegas began taking animals that were transported from the upper Midwest years ago (1995?). That and the population boom probably had as much to do with the horrible situation at AF as the incompetence of the shelter BoD and upper management.
HSUS and BF have assisted with the airlift of dogs from Puerto Rico and the Middleast. At one time 50-60 dogs a week were coming in from Puerto Rico alone.
Not only are there not enough homes for all the dogs in the US, there are not enough homes for all the dogs globally.
Maybe we should suggest Wino take his masterful no kill nation plans to some 3rd world country and get him out of our hair.
you did read on his blog the next target is a No Kill Australia.... There is a blog Herps World I joined a couple of years ago they're fighting him, and that was two years ago.... but this October it's a festival down under... he does belong down under, really... I felt terrible about the dogs in the middle east, I also feel terrible about the people in the middle east. Poor use of resources. There are horrid conditions in many countries, I always wondered why we didn't tackle China ( there's a sweet place) guess trade agreements ?

I've had company in town for HAN and can't get settled in to my routine. I read that and kept meaning to check and see if you had it, so it's offical. It was a done deal long ago. My opinon of Mitch is low and not going to change after reading the story for a second time. I'm not sure what he meant by " should be able to do it" these are live animals for heavens sake.
We read the story about Mitch. He is the one driving the boat now, so lets see how the hot shot holds up when the buck stops with him......My main concern is the condition of the kennels, Cindy kept them so clean, and even if staff got pissed the kennels were clean. Lazy people didn't last very long on her watch. I think Mitch may lack skill at handling employees.
What is transport ? If I come to Sacramento to pick up a dog with a home waiting, then am I killing a shelter dog ? When somebody wants a GSD from me, they are not going to get from the shelter. Now if you are talking about going in and cherry picking every dog under 30 pounds, thats not good. Very thin line Oreo, be careful how you walk it.

Transport the way it's used in rescue today is not healthy, sorry Karen. There was a local story here about the goofy rescue who went to California and " transported some very sick dogs into the area, she had no money, couldn't afford to care for them but by golly she could drive to So Cal and bring them here. We had dogs with no health issues being destroyed 35 feet from the road here; but Dogtown had to transport.
Picking up a dog who has a home and delivering it, is not transport. I think of transport as the wholesale moving of animals from shelter to shelter or area to area without a home at their destination. It is done by well meaning people, but is a bad practice I believe. All these people patting each other on the bacck for " saving " a dog, and it's just in a different shelter, could we get some numbers on this ?
